If you have ever been shocked by a high bill at the pharmacy co-pay, there is a way to pay that can help. It is called the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan.
What is this new plan?
Starting in 2026, you can choose to spread your drug costs out over the whole year. Instead of paying a large amount at the pharmacy counter.
This is a voluntary program. It doesn't cost anything to join, and there is no interest and no extra fees.
How it works:
- You Sign Up: You must tell your insurance company (or Alyssa!) that you want to join.
- Pick Up Your Meds: You take your prescriptions home.
- Pay Monthly: Your insurance company adds up what you would have paid and divides it into monthly bills for the rest of the year.
Is this right for you?
This plan doesn't lower the total price of your drugs, but it makes them easier to fit into a monthly budget. It is a great choice if:
- You are on a fixed monthly income (like Social Security).
- You have high costs early in the year (like a $615 deductible).
- You want to avoid "sticker shock" at the pharmacy.
Note: If you use this payment plan in 2025 and stay with the same insurance company, you will be automatically signed up again for 2026. If you change plans, we need to sign you up for the new one!
